We are a relevant, unique organisation who meets the needs of the community; and we save lives. Understanding the types of issues facing New Zealanders living in rural and regional communities, often a helping hand and a little support is all that is needed to connect people with the care that they need.
The power to make a real difference in any community is in numbers, so even a small weekly amount donated by a number of employees can go a long way towards helping Blokesline.
Volunteering with MATES helps us to continue providing vital community services, while giving your staff the opportunity to give something back to the community. It’s great for staff morale, team building and diversifying skills.
MATES relies heavily on community support and we know that strategic alignment with national partners can make us truly sustainable. We will work with your organisation to align our brands and values and to achieve partnership objectives to continue to deliver services and raise awareness of both organisations.
MATES acknowledges our national partners, corporate supporters and workplace giving partners. The funding, expertise and/or products and services provided by these organisations are helping us to realise our goals.

Corporate Volunteering and Fundraising
Companies need stable, healthy communities in which to prosper and many recognise that volunteers play a key role in developing and maintain healthy communities.
New Zealand companies are encouraging employees to volunteer and support a cause to help the wider community. Some companies even offer their employees paid leave to undertake community-based work.
Corporate volunteering and fundraising can have a very positive impact on your workplace including:
Fostering good staff morale
Promoting a sense of community within your organisation
Providing a cost-effective strategy to reduce employee absenteeism
Engaging your clients and suppliers
Helping to build individuals’ confidence and self-esteem by giving them an opportunity to put something back into the community.
Volunteering with MATES assists and supports us in continuing to answer our 24 hour crisis support service. Staff may choose to volunteer regularly or on a needs-basis, assisting Lifeline with specific campaigns and fundraising events.
Our team will work with you to develop a tailored volunteering program for your staff. Your employees can choose to volunteer as a team or as an individual, locally or nationally.
Workplaces can choose to raise funds for MATES by organising specific events within their workplace. National fundraising events are the perfect opportunity to raise funds and help support MATES services, while at the same time raising awareness of stress management, health and wellbeing in your workplace.
Your workplace might decide to hold a special event for Blokesline. We can assist with your event by providing ideas, promotional material and supplying you with the necessary information. For example, you might choose to host a charity ball in MATES honour, or facilitate a networking function with your stakeholders with funds directed to MATES.
For further information about fundraising for MATES please view MATES fundraising guidelines on our website. To discuss your corporate volunteering and fundraising options, please contact MATES Fundraising team: Phone: 06 759 1163 / Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Workplace giving donations are deducted from pre-tax employee salaries, which mean that individual taxable income is reduced. MATES has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status through MATES Trust NZ, which means that workplace giving contributions qualify for an immediate tax deduction.
By volunteering your time and skills to MATES you can help connect others with care.
Workplace giving provides individual employees with the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of other New Zealanders by donating a nominated amount from each pay.
The power to make a real difference in any community is in numbers, so even a small weekly amount donated by a number of employees can go a long way towards helping MATES provide its vital services and programs.
Workplace giving is an incredibly easy, hassle-free way to donate to MATES on a regular basis – and the donations really do make a difference. Low administration costs ensure that the money donated is used where it is needed most.
Funds received through workplace giving helps MATES to...
Answer calls to Blokesline’s 24 hour telephone crisis support service
Provide training in suicide prevention and awareness
Develop suicide bereavement support programs
Recruit Facilitators and Telephone Crisis Supporters
Provide access to self-help resources
Promote help seeking behaviour and awareness of mental health issues and suicide prevention
Approach your CEO - boost your workplace contribution
Some workplace giving partners might choose to further boost the contribution provided by employees by matching the amount dollar-for-dollar at a corporate level. This provides further tax deductions for the employer and means that more funds are raised for MATES. This is of course an optional approach to workplace giving.

Testimonials from Authentic Men:
“In the short time I have attended MATES I learnt about the mask we can all wear and it felt like mine was going to crack and upon leaving that meeting I also felt like I had a hole in my safety net…Gradually my life has started to change & every time, around & in that energy of MATES, I grow closer to that Authentic Life we long for & deserve to have and personally look forward to the time & challenges to come.” – Ricky
“There have been tears and laughs as we share together. Quite often I am surprised by what happens during our sharing together. I've found a healing takes place as we humble ourselves and share from our hearts. There is opportunity for the guys to really encourage those who are going through a rough patch in their lives. There is a great deal of wisdom that is shared and I have personally grown and learnt a lot through the times of encouragement…I have really enjoyed the challenging process that I have seen in my own Life and I hope that many other men will come on board so that MATES can make a difference in their Lives as well.” - Kevin
“This was a fairly dramatic and highly unpleasant time that left me highly stressed and in a lot of self-doubt…I have attended regular meetings since then and have found a huge level of comfort amongst members. It is a very non-judgmental environment where I feel accepted for all of who and what I am. I gain huge amounts of clarity and insight from all members and meetings.” – Lawrence
“This for me was the start of something awesome. Men here were interested in where I had been, but more so where I was going. This question was one I wanted answers for and they seem to give me a sense of hope which I hadn’t seen before. It was incredible the feelings I had from these meetings and I wanted more of it. I knew it was good for me…" - Peter
