Meet Wayne Millar
“I have lived in the beautiful Bay of Plenty for over 13 years, have two amazing children and have worked in the Travel Industry for over 15 years.
I am proud to be a founding member of Mates Tauranga and am a facilitator alongside some truly amazing men in our centre.
Since its inception in October 2012, Mates Tauranga has helped many men move from very low points in their lives to a place where they feel good about themselves, are happy again and are leading very full and rewarding lives once again.
Having experienced a few lows myself and now finding true happiness with my new partner and family, I too have learned lows are not for ever. Mates has definitely been the catalyst for me to recognise that talking does help, and men can definitely empower men.
I am committed to supporting, encouraging and listening to any man that reaches out to this amazing group we have in Tauranga. If you are feeling low or know of any man who is not in a good space, please let me know. We can make a difference.”
Meet Gareth Griffiths
I love being a Facilitator for Mates and know it has given me the confidence to improve my communication skills, with the added privilege of listening to men who provide inspiration for me in my day to day life.
Having lived in Tauranga for over 3 years (originally from UK, near Liverpool) I am presently an Employment Coordinator for people with disabilities, enabling them to get them back into the workplace. I meet a lot of amazing individuals and nothing is better than feeling you have helped someone find a job.
I have a Bachelor of Education Honours Degree with over 20 years experience as a primary teacher (5 - 11 years) and as a Student Mentor, helping train teachers coming into the profession, something I was passionate about. I was part of the Management Team leading training in areas like Assessment, Science and English.
Soccer is something I love with a passion having two boys who are skilled players and I also play tennis, swim lots and get up the top of the Mount when I can. I am proud to now lead sessions as a facilitator for an organisation that is close to my heart. We have an awesome group of guys in Tauranga and they have been a lifeline to me, helping me change and develop as a person.
